Walks

With over 330 acres of stunning, natural parkland, Burton Constable offer some of the most scenic and satisfying walks Hull and East Yorkshire visitor attractions have to offer.

Suitable footwear is recommended for all of our walks and trails. Please follow the countryside code by closing gates behind you and adhering to any instructions or signage. Keep your dog on a lead at all times. Also, be aware of any cattle or grazing animals.

Lakeside Walk

Stretch your legs and take in the scenery around as you wander around our glorious lakes. As you head across Hundred Acre, you will see the lakes glimmering on the horizon. What were once a series of fishing ponds, they were eventually converted into two lakes, separated by a dam-cum bridge, by Lancelot 'Capability 'Brown, in the decade between 1772-1782. Here you can expect to find lots of nature and wildlife as you circle around the lakes and admire the views back towards the Hall & Stable Block.

The Lakeside Walk takes approximately 45 minutes - 1 hour to journey around but there are plenty of benches surrounding the lake, should you wish to rest and take a little longer.

East Park Walk

Gallivant through the East Park, in-between and around the impressive tree clumps which were designed to shield the house from public view. As you loop back around you should approach the wildlife pond where a more natural habitat has evolved, attracting many birds and insects.

This is one of our shorter walks and will only take around half an hour to complete, depending on how long you stop to admire the wildlife.

Woodland Walk

Venture through the woodland and navigate your way under the canopy of trees towards the Constable Moby site. It's likely that the sheep and lambs will be grazing nearby and rabbits may shoot across your path as you head out towards the woodland loop. The flora within the woodland is seasonal and it's quite an astonishing site when the daffodils are in bloom. Head back down the chalk path where the former aircraft hangers were and admire the wildflowers and peacefulness.

Our Woodland Walk takes approximately 45 minutes - 1 hour. Again, there are a few rest points in place should you fancy a more leisurely stroll.

5K Walk

For the more adventurous of you with that little extra stamina, our new 5k walk entices you around some of the best sections of our parkland, including the lakes, woodland and a full circuit around our stunning Elizabethan mansion back towards the Stable Block.

This route will take over an hour, at least, so make sure you're fully prepared with appropriate footwear and water to re-hydrate!

Winter Walk

Adventure across the ancient medieval site of Burton Constable. Admire the variety of trees, shrubbery and wildlife as you wander across the original village and its roads beneath your feet!

This walk can take around 45 minutes to complete and is only recommended from October-March whilst the cattle are not in the field.
