Step beyond the public rooms and discover the hidden side of Burton Constable Hall on this exclusive 60-minute Behind the Scenes tour with one of our expert guides.

Explore the secret spaces and forgotten corners of the Hall as you follow the routes once used by the servants who lived and worked here. This special tour takes you into areas that are normally closed to visitors, including long hidden corridors, derelict rooms and the narrow spiral staircases that lead to the servants’ quarters and the rooftop.

Along the way, you’ll experience the building much as the staff once did, walking across original wooden floors and centuries-old stone flags that may be uneven in places.

As with any historic house, conservation work is ongoing at Burton Constable Hall. Access to the rooftop may also depend on weather conditions, so each tour may follow a slightly different route.

Important Information

Please note this tour involves:

• A spiral staircase to the servants’ quarters (55 steps)
• A very steep staircase to the rooftop (48 steps)
• Uneven historic flooring in some areas

For this reason, the tour may not be suitable for visitors with mobility or certain health conditions. Sensible footwear is strongly recommended.

• Parkland access from 10am
• Self-guided tour of the Hall from 11am
• Behind the Scenes Tour departing from the Great Hall at 1pm

Cream Tea or Afternoon Tea

After exploring the hidden spaces of the Hall, relax and enjoy a delicious treat in the Stables Kitchen at 2.45pm.

Choose either a Cream Tea with a homemade scone, jam and clotted cream served with tea or coffee, or a Traditional Afternoon Tea with homemade sandwiches, savouries, cakes and a scone served with tea or coffee.
