Art Exhibition, Burton Constable Hall, Hull, East Yorkshire

June is inspired and motivated by a desire to represent attitudes, thoughts and emotions, particularly those which are complex, confusing or difficult to understand.  Her ‘signature’ works are pen and ink drawings with intricate patterns of lines and shapes.  She believes that the simplicity and starkness of monochrome images has an inherent impact, but the restrained use of colour can also be effective.  She is fascinated by faces and abstract facial features are a recurring theme in her work.  Sometimes she uses them to depict the internal and external manifestation of an individual’s mental state.

June’s Expressions exhibition comprises her pen and ink drawings, plus some mixed media and acrylic work, particularly where the subject matter overlaps. Her intention is to challenge the viewer to think about what they are seeing, several interpretations being possible, both humorous and serious.  June will be doing some Meet the Artist sessions during the exhibition, when she will be delighted to discuss her work with visitors on the following days:

Sat 24 October, Tues 27 October,  Sun 1 November, Tues 3 November and Sun 8 November

June was interested in drawing and painting from an early age.  After graduating and then studying for professional qualifications in personnel management, she worked as a personnel/HR manager.  She moved to East Yorkshire in 1979 and worked for the City of York Council and the University of York.  After a career in personnel/HR management, June decided to concentrate on art and became a student again, achieving an HNC in Fine Art at York College.  She is a member of East Riding Artists (ERA)
