Step into Burton Constable Hall and travel back to a Victorian Christmas Eve in the 1850s.

The family has retired after an evening of celebrating, leaving the Hall alive with quiet festive preparation. Candlelight flickers across grand interiors, ribbons are being untangled, gifts wrapped, and traces of the evening’s festivities linger as the household readies for Christmas Day and a midnight feast.

Highlights of Your Visit:

  • Historical Displays: Journey through our principal ground-floor rooms, specially dressed to capture the authentic atmosphere of a Victorian Christmas Eve. With expanded historical displays and extra details to discover throughout for 2026.
  • Self-Guided Narrative Booklet: Follow the ever-watchful Housekeeper, Mrs. Styche, through your accompanying story guide for an intimate glimpse into the festive traditions of the estate’s servants and gentry.
  • Festive Children’s Trail: A brand-new festive dog trail designed to keep young explorers engaged as they hunt for clues through the grand ground-floor spaces.
  • The Memory Tree: Pause for a quiet moment of reflection in the historic Chapel, where you can hang a message or wish on the Hall’s Memory Tree.

Please note: To deliver this specialised seasonal experience, access is focused exclusively on the decorated ground-floor rooms. Upstairs rooms remain closed for annual winter conservation and will reopen when the full house tour resumes in 2027.
