Reopening of Burton Constable Hall & Grounds
It gives us great pleasure, after ongoing and recent government guidance, to announce that we are now open.
Please, take the time to read the following information carefully, to enable you to fully appreciate and understand our offerings, visitor policies and procedures, ahead of visiting us.
It’s also worth noting that regulations and procedures are subject to change at a moment's notice. Therefore, make sure you check our digital channels for the latest information before visiting.
Re-opening Dates & Times
- Grounds Only: Open Daily - 10am - 5pm
- Stables & Hall: From 18th May - Open Tue-Sun 12-5pm (last admission 4pm)
Continuous assessments will be carried out regarding our facilities and offerings in accordance with Government guidelines.
To better manage the capacity and flow of visitors, as well as for test and trace purposes, we are still requesting that you pre-book your tickets in advance via our online booking system. Slots will be available for the day of your visit and booking a ticket will guarantee your place.
How do you book a ticket in advance?
All visitors should pre-book tickets in advance, including members and pass holders.The easiest way to book your ticket is to head straight to our online ticketing system by clicking here and then completing the steps below.
Alternatively, you can access our website through a variety of mediums. If you are on a mobile or tablet device, once you arrive on the Home page, you will see the tab ‘ Book Tickets ’ click this and follow the steps below. If you’re on a desktop computer, the ‘Book Tickets’ tab is in the top right-hand corner.
- Click & select ‘Admissions’
- Choose & add your ticket
- Choose your preferred date
- Select ‘Checkout’, once satisfied
- Review your selection & login (if you already have an account)
- Checkout & complete your details
- Hit ‘Next’ & fill out your payment method
- Complete your order & check your email for confirmation
How do you redeem your ticket?
After completing your booking, you will be emailed a confirmation. You can either print this off at home and bring it with you or, for additional safety, you can display it on your phone or digital device. Please present this when you arrive at the ticket desk.
To make it a contactless experience, we will not be issuing physical tickets but you may be asked for your receipt or proof of purchase email by other members of staff during your visit.
Entering & Exiting
You may arrive at your leisure. We ask you to be patient, if you arrive at a particularly busy time.
Upon arrival you should head up the Main Entrance, as usual, and follow the road around beyond the Stable Block where you will find our free customer parking.
Directly opposite the car park you will see the Main Entrance. You will notice a roped off area which dictates the direction of the queue. Please, join the back of the queue and adhere to the system in place and maintain social distancing at all times.
When you arrive at the glass door entrance, we urge you to take advantage of the sanitiser station we’ve put in place, before entering.
After entering you will see two ticket desks with members of our team present, protected and ready to serve you. The second ticket desk will be predominantly used for membership subscriptions, renewals and to ease any traffic.
Once inside the Grounds, if at any point you wish to re-enter, you should do so via the Doggy Dining door and once again sanitise your hands before doing so.
As long as you have pre-booked your ticket and paid in advance, you can remain on the premises until we close.
To avoid congestion and any crossover, we are asking that you leave our premises via the exit gates situated outside Stables Kitchen. The exit path will take you beyond the front entrance through which you arrive and back across to the car park. Please, ensure you leave via the exit drive. Do not head back the way you entered.
Understandably, our facilities and offerings may be limited but every measure we have put in place is to ensure we are following current Government guidelines. The safety of both our staff and visitors is paramount and aspects may be subject to change at short notice.
What will be open?
Risk assessments and procedures have been put in place granting us the Covid-19 industry standard 'We're Good To Go' mark, in partnership with The National Tourist Organisations of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Hall & Stables
From Tuesday 18th May our Hall & Stables will be open to the general public. All current Covid-19 guidelines will still apply.
Please, book your Hall tickets in advance and select your time slot upon arrival. Be advised that pushchairs and any excessive baggage cannot be stored in the Hall at this current time and should be left in your vehicle.
Parkland & Gardens
We’re fortunate to have vast wide open spaces for you to enjoy fresh air, exercise and nature without being overly concerned about mass crowds - there’s plenty to explore!
Make the most of the stunning scenery and tranquil environments by setting-up for a picnic on one of our lawns or at one of our dedicated picnic tables. Feel free to access the outdoor play areas too.
If you do choose to picnic, please be responsible to either take away your own litter or use the bins provided on site.
Walks & Trails
We're encouraging you to make the most of our scenic Walks & Trails on your visit. New for 2021 are our x 10 interpretation panels, giving you further insight and education about our Grounds - why not seek each one and make a day of it?
The Wildlife Sculpture and Parkland Waymarker Trails are great to participate in as a family, allowing you to explore some of the most popular parts of our parkland. The open sections of the Woodland Walk invite you to take in some of our finest nature and wildlife. Alternatively, you can enjoy a stroll around the East Park with the sheep and lambs via the wildlife pond and towards the alpacas.

Stables Kitchen will be offering a take-away service from Monday12th April. Outdoor seating is available.
As a takeaway service, we ask that once you have received your order, you consume it in an area away from the immediate premises, to prevent any congestion.
All of our catering outlet offerings will be continuously reviewed and monitored in accordance with and alongside further Government guidance.
Our Gift Shop will be open. Should you wish to make a purchase, please notify a member of staff for assistance or queue in the area highlighted.
Our toilet facilities will remain open for our visitors. Situated within the South Stable Block courtyard, we would ask that you access them via the North Stable Block entrance (unless disabled) and adhere to the queuing systems in place. Our toilets will be regularly supervised to maintain sanitation and cleanliness.On top of this, we have installed AIRsterile systems to further combat infections and reduce contamination risks within our toilet
Are dogs allowed?
Of course, your dogs are still welcome to join in the fun and explore as long as they remain on a lead and you continue to be responsible for their mess. Unfortunately, at the moment, our Doggy Dining area will be used as an additional filtration area from the outside back indoors, should anybody need to.
Burton Constable Covid 19 Measures
Behind closed doors the entire team here have been readying for your return. Policies, systems and risk assessments have been reviewed and adapted coinciding with the latest governmental guidelines available to us.
By working closely with other organisations such as Historic Houses and Yorkshire's Great Houses, Castles & Gardens, we have been able to gain an insight to the successes of other organisations similar to ours and implement systems that work for our own establishment.
We have also been granted the 'We're Good To Go' kitemark in recognition that our business has followed Government and industry Covid-19 guidelines.
Non Furloughed staff that have remained present on site have been the driving factor behind the new systems and measurements we have now put in place. Since then, Furloughed staff have been invited back in to access this new knowledge and undergone additional training to bring them fully up to speed.
Moreover, we have implemented new cleaning schedules for our facilities team, to maintain cleanliness especially at prominent touch-point places.
Our staff will have a presence across the site to make you feel welcome and reassure you of any concerns you may have - please, do not hesitate to speak to a member of our team should you need to.
Our PPE preparation has seen the installation of countertop screens, individual hand sanitisers for each staff member to be carried at all times and used frequently. Additional sanitiser stations have also been installed at key points throughout the visitor journey which we advise you to use.
We’ve further increased our signage and communications throughout our premises, to help reinforce and politely remind our visitors of the new systems and regulations in place.
Be it through additional signage instructions or visual indicators and markers, one-way systems or new queuing points, we have tried to make it clear the importance of social distancing so everyone concerned can have an enjoyable and safe experience whilst on our site.
It will be compulsory to wear a face covering whilst in our 'confined spaces'. To save any confusion, we will need you to wear a face mask or covering indoors, at all times, on our premises.
Test & Trace
We are asking all of our visitors to provide us with their name and email address at the main Ticket Desk, upon arrival, for test and trace purposes. This can be one person from your party. We are also registered with the NHS Covid-19 app, if you would prefer to download this and scan in on arrival.
