Certificate in Country House Studies

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Burton Constable Foundation in association with the University of Hull runs a Certificate in Country House Studies with an opportunity for further study towards a BA in Arts and Humanities.

 

 

 

This two year certificate course traces the pattern of architectural development of the English Country House from the Middle Ages. The course introduces students to the history of Fine and Decorative Arts, and considers the social and economic role of the Country House and its occupants.

Questions Answered

When does the programme start? The next intake commences in September 2006.

When does the programme run? Lectures are held every Tuesday, from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00p.m., at Burton Constable Hall with a number of study visits to other Country Houses.

How are modules taught and assessed? Learning takes place in groups of 10 to 20 students with formal lectures, group discussions, student presentations and behind-the-scene guided tours. Each module is assessed by written essays with one exam in the final year.
