Welcoming Families
At Burton Constable we endeavour to make family visits both worthwhile and enjoyable. Giant garden games (draughts and chess) and croquet are free to use on the Orangery lawn (croquet equipment can be collected from the shop for a returnable £10 deposit). The large grass area in front of the Stable Block can be used for ball games.
The Parkland Experience pack can be borrowed for a returnable £5 deposit from the shop. This is designed for families to get the most out of the grounds and our new parkland walks. The pack contains an orienteering map, compass, binoculars, bug collector and magnifying glass.
One of the main challenges faced by the Burton Constable Foundation is preserving the fragile interiors and delicate contents of the house. Because of the risk of accidents to babies and young children and damage to the historic fabric and contents, it is not possible to take prams, pushchairs or baby back carriers around the house. These must be left beside the entrance desk where there is always a member of staff on duty. Front slings are permitted and, along with reins for toddlers, are available on loan from the entrance desk.
Welcoming Disabled Visitors
We welcome all visitors with physical, sensory and learning disabilities to Burton Constable Hall. Disabled parking is available at the front of the Hall and also close to the disabled toilet facilities in the Car Park. (Disabled parking may vary on event days. Please telephone for information). Visitors can use either their own manual wheelchair or our loan wheelchair on the ground floor. Loan wheelchairs are available on the first floor - accessible by means of our ambulant stairlift. Due to access limitations, powered wheelchairs and scooters cannot be used inside the Hall. Assistance dogs (on harness) are allowed inside the Hall.
Important Information
In order to protect Burton Constable Hall for future generations, we ask you to respect the following:
- Please try and avoid sharp heals and ridged soles as these can damage delicate floors and carpets.
- Photography of interiors is not allowed.
- The Hall, Tea Room and Shop are non-smoking areas.
- Visitors with large bags or camera cases will be asked to leave them at the entrance desk to prevent unintentional damage to objects and surfaces or obstruction to other visitors.
- Please note that dogs are welcome in the grounds provided they are kept on a lead and the handler cleans up any waste. Assistance dogs only are allowed inside the Hall.
