The Friends of Burton Constable is a Registered Charity which was formed to support the work of the Burton Constable Foundation. Without their valuable contributions it would not have been possible for the Foundation to acquire items previously sold from its collections and return them to Burton Constable Hall.
During 2003 they made a generous donation towards the purchase of an 18th century telescope originally acquired by William Constable in 1760 for 100 guineas (£105). The telescope, with its complex and finely-crafted equatorial mounting, became one of the 'must see' features for visitors during the 18th and 19th century. During 2004 we are hoping to be able to provide a children's playground for our younger visitors which will be funded totally by the Friends of Burton Constable and dedicated in memory of John Hicks, a former member of the committee.
