It's not all Brown & White

Exhibition
Sat 26th March 2016 to Sun 11th December 2016

In celebration of the 300th anniversary of England’s greatest gardener, Lancelot Capability Brown, this exhibition explores the ‘improvements’ Brown carried out at Burton Constable, one of the best-documented examples of Brown’s work at a country house estate, along with other gardening innovations taking place under the patronage of William Constable (1721-91).

Original landscape proposals, plans and drawings will be displayed alongside the remarkable Mr. Brown’s Directions – a unique series of minutes recorded during each of Brown’s eight visits to Burton Constable between 1772 and 1782 that provide a rare and wonderful insight into how the man himself executed his grand schemes.

Situated in the Muniment Room at the end of your free-flow visit, entry to this exhibition is included in the normal hall admission.
